  • About

    The NHBP Housing Department holds the responsibility of providing NHBP Tribal Members the opportunity to obtain affordable, safe and decent housing.

    The Housing Department utilizes several housing-related assistance programs and services to support NHBP Tribal Members in their pursuit of housing. The Housing Department manages housing assistance programs, such as the rental housing program for units on Pine Creek Indian Reservation, energy and utility assistance programs, including programs to assist with covering electric and heat costs, and direct assistance programs. The Housing Department also oversees home ownership programs, including programs that assist with home repair and renovations, down payments and educating potential homebuyers about homeownership, household budgeting and housing finance.

  • Housing Assistance

    NHBP Emergency Assistance Program: Rental, Rental Deposit and Mortgage Assistance Sections

    Provides limited non-recurring financial assistance for rental, rental deposit or mortgage payments. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan with a gross household income at or below 80% State Median Income.

    Rental Housing Program

    Manages the single family units, two to three bed units, on the Pine Creek Indian Reservation and adjacent Tribal-owned properties such as the Mishkoswen Development. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within or are relocating to the state of Michigan with a gross household income at or below 80% State Median Income. A scored waiting list applies.

  • Energy & Utility Assistance

    NHBP Emergency Assistance Program, Utility Assistance Section:

    Provides limited non-recurring financial assistance for public and private utility payments. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan. Includes payments for energy and non-energy utilities applicable such as electric, natural gas, LP-propane, fuel oil, municipal water and sewer. The gross household income must be at or below 80% State Median Income.

    NHBP Supplemental Heating Program

    Provides limited non-recurring supplement of heat-energy utility payments. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the United States of America with a gross household income at or below 100% State Median Income.

    NHBP Elders Supplemental Heating Program

    Provides limited non-recurring secondary supplement of heat-energy utility payments for Elder households. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 50 and above who reside within the United States of America with a gross household income at or below 100% State Medium Income.

    Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Low Income Energy Assistance Program

    Provides limited non-recurring supplement of heat-energy utility payments. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan with a Gross household income at or below 60% State Median Income.

  • Direct Assistance

    Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Community Services Block Grant

    Provides limited non-recurring direct assistance. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the NHBP Contract Health Services Delivery Area (CHSDA) with a gross household income at or below 60% State Median Income. Provides limited strategic services assistance available such as direct assistance, occupational, transportation, etc.

    Emergency Relocation Assistance Program

    Provides homelessness prevention and other direct assistance. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within or are relocating to the state of Michigan with a gross household income at or below 80% State Median Income. Assists with the displaced persons or homelessness prevention services such as physical accommodations and limited emergency food assistance.

  • Home Ownership

    Home Repair & Renovation Assistance Program I

    Provides special financial assistance for improvement of critical mechanical, structural or weatherization deficiencies. NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan with a gross household income at or below 80% State Median Income.

    Home Repair & Renovation Assistance Program II

    Provides special financial assistance for improvement of critical mechanical, structural or weatherization deficiencies. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan with a gross household income between 80.1 to 100% State Median Income.

    Home Repair & Renovation Assistance Program III

    Provides special financial assistance for improvement of critical mechanical, structural or weatherization deficiencies. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside within the state of Michigan.

    Indian Health Service Sanitation Facilities Construction Program

    Project-based assistance for private well and septic systems or connection to municipal water and sewage systems. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who reside and own home or property within the state of Michigan with documented residential well or septic deficiencies such as individual well and septic, municipal water and sewer service connection, well abandonment, etc.

    Down Payment Assistance Program I

    Provides special financial assistance for the capital down payment or closing cost when purchasing a home. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who are first-time homebuyers that reside within or are relocating to the state of Michigan with a gross household income at or below 80% State Median Income. The Homebuyer Education or Credit Management certificate is required to benefit from this program.

    Down Payment Assistance Program II

    Provides special financial assistance for the capital down payment or closing cost when purchasing a home. Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who are first-time homebuyers that reside within or are relocating to the state of Michigan with a gross household income between 80.1 – 100% State Median Income. The Homebuyer Education or Credit Management certificate is required to benefit from this program.

Open to NHBP Tribal Members aged 18 and up who are first-time homebuyers that reside within or are relocating to the state of Michigan.     Homebuyer Education Program

    Quarterly classes to teach those interested in homeownership, improvement of household budgeting, basic credit counseling, mortgage lending programs and practices, etc. Open to all NHBP Tribal Members.
