NHBP’s Health and Human Services Department (HHSD) Compliance Program operates in accordance to the guidelines established by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This program helps the HHSD carry out operations ethically and with a high level of integrity. The NHBP HHSD’s compliance program provides:

 

Written compliance policies, procedures and Code of Ethics: 


1. Compliance oversight and a Compliance Board
2. Effective education and training
3. Effective lines of communication
4. Enforcement of standards through well-publicized disciplinary guidelines
5. Implementation of risk assessments, internal monitoring and auditing activities
6. Enforcement of prompt responses to detected offenses and developing corrective actions

 

The compliance program is for:

1. The protection of all health information
2. The prevention of fraud, waste and abuse
3. Enforcement of federal, state, and Tribal rules and regulations, as well as Tribal policies and procedures
4. Collaboration with other NHBP departments
