The NHBP Legal Department holds the responsibility of protecting the sovereignty of the NHBP Tribal Nation. The department supports the efforts of the NHBP Tribal Council by drafting legislation and resolutions, representing the Tribe in litigation before administrative bodies and courts, and providing legal opinions as requested.

The Legal Department also oversees implementation of the Tribal-State Tax Agreement, as well as serves to support NHBP’s economic diversification companies including FireKeepers Casino Hotel Development Authority and Waséyabek Development Company, LLC. With a focus on preserving, promoting and monitoring the sovereignty of NHBP, the Legal Department continues to serve and protect the legal rights of the NHBP Tribal Community.
